I lost both my Bharatanatyam teachers when I was quite young. At the beginning of my dance career, when I was probably just 20 or 21 yrs. I’ve been by myself for the last 14 years, working, training and correcting myself constantly to get where I am. It had been so long since I had eyes look at me the way that I look at my students, Both critically and lovingly all at once. Eyes searching for mistakes, to correct, to build up, and eyes lighting up with warmth and love when small hurdles are crossed.
I had such eyes on me the past week, and I am so grateful for it.
My teacher’s teacher, “grand teacher”? Paddu akka as we fondly call her, and Gayatri akka spent time with me. Correcting, and pointing things out for me. It is truly a privilege to have someone do that.
It is something I have not had in many many years .....even a few days of that privilege is something I value immeasurably.
This dance in the video is not what they taught me 😂😂😂 but it is definitely how I feel about the time spent.
The video is from a random dancing morning on the terrace of my house last week. To @arrahman ‘s most beautiful song .
Now off to dinner.....
Lots of things happening in the coming weeks..... :-) will share in my stories
